Gulmarg Ski Resort is experiencing a severe snow storm
Gulmarg Ski Resort in the Himalayan Kashmir valley is experiencing a severe snowstorm, resulting in significant snow accumulation in different regions. In particular, the Gulmarg Ski Resort at 2600 meters has received one meter of snow, while the Mt Apharwat and Pir Panjal range at 4300 meters has received nearly two meters of snow. The temperature in the Gulmarg Ski Resort has dropped to -10°C over the last two days. Due to the large amount of snow, the avalanche stability of the higher reaches of the mountain will be high for the next two days, making it an ideal time for an adventure in the Himalayas. If you are interested, contact us as we still have some availability.
Finally, we got enough snow in the Himalayas to ski
Finally, we got enough snow in the Himalayas to ski, but a very serious unstable snowpack, presently we have 4-5 feet of snow at 4300 ms, this is a low average snow base! First time in thirty years! Thin snow storms and long sunny days convert snow into grains, melting process in a day and freezing in night temperatures, giving nice finishing to grains, ready to roll!
The last storm brought 2 feet of snow, covering the 2 feet of shallow big grains, size of 3mm, Even at 25-30 degrees slopes are sliding and on the lee side some slab avalanches as we need one more heavy snowstorm to flash the unstable snowpack. Our Gulmarg back-country ski and snowboarding trips will start on 20th January 2023 and Heliski First of February 2023! Have a great winter.
It’s snowing in Gulmarg ski resort!
For the last three days, Gulmarg village at 2600 meters received one foot of snow, higher up in the Himalayas at 4300 meters, there is almost one meter of Snow, and next week one more of a snow storm is on its way. Till the beginning of January Gulmarg and the heli-ski terrain need more than two metres of snow, so big rocks, anchors, and small bushy trees will be buried.
Gulmarg Gondola is operational for non-skiers this time, skiers and snowboarders will be allowed to ski in the resort as soon as we receive more snow and the mountain will be skiable. Heli-ski will be operational from 20th January 2023!
